Flowers, walking leaves, vase, styrofoam, mesh caps

Albertinum, Dresden

For KOMBAT, a bunch of flowers and leaf insects, otherwise known as walking leaves, were placed in amongst the sculpture collection of the Albertinum in Dresden. The flowers were modelled on a bunch of porcelain flowers held in the collection and withered over the duration of the exhibition. Walking leaves are insects that feed on leaves and imitate them as a way of camouflaging themselves. A row of cabinets facing the flowers held sculptures and busts from antiquity to baroque. Between these collection objects, we positioned five styrofoam heads on graphite styrofoam bases. Mesh trucker caps were placed on each Styrofoam head and embroidered with the phrase: THE FUNDAMENTAL TIMES APPLY AS THINGS GO BY.
